Developing Online Resources for African Language Instruction
The internet has become an important tool for the teaching of commonly taught languages. However instructors of African languages would testify that harnessing resources from the internet for the instruction of African LCTLs is full of challenges due to the quality and content of available resources. This is especially the case for beginning classes. Professors Akintunde Akinyemi, Charles Bwenge and James Essegbey are rectifying this situation by producing authentic video content to supplement instructional materials for Yoruba, Swahili and Akan at the University of Florida. We hope that colleagues will join in producing a pool of such videos in all the African languages taught in the United States. These films would be archived at ALMA for use by all instructors.
